Blessing of the Water Once again we are proud to have supported our towns Blessing of the Waters ceremony in May. Dignitaries of the Cinque Ports and civic officials in their regalia paraded to the town Hard where a brief religious service was performed. Our gigs moored alongside the Hard jetty during the speeches and added to the spectacle of the day. The tradition is for our local vicar to bless vessels for safe passage coming through the year with a sprinkling of water. This year she went a little too far and ordered a mass blessing from above. The heavens opened on her command just as the speeches finished. Almost as quickly as it arrived, the rain disappeared again. This allowed our gigs to row along side the flotilla of sailing boats and barges out into the bay. On route all boats made much noise as is tradition. Thankfully the sun shone for the main part.
